When one door closes…
Despite many appeals for someone to take on the role of Leader – a small group of co-leaders works best – no-one has yet taken up the opportunity to help educate and entertain our members about the wonders of Science, how Science impacts us, and why we should even care. Therefore the Science Group has closed its doors, for the time being at least.
…another door can open…
Why not consider getting together with two or three like-minded members with an interest in science and have a go at organising a few meetings, just to see how it goes.
The group doesn’t have to be run as it was in the past. You would have plenty of scope to do it differently:-
- frequency – weekly, fortnightly or monthly
- size – small or large groups
- venue – Scout HQ or member’s home, or a local pub or cafe
- length – short one hour meetings or longer
- formats
- discussions/debates
- BBC/Open University courses
- TED talks
- research studies/projects
- competitions
- quizzes
- visits
- speakers
- members
- teachers/university lecturers
- other u3a speakers
- topics
- science and society
- history of science
- topical science news
- physics, chemistry, biology, botany
- astronomy, astrophysics, AI
- medicine, psychology
- science and engineering
- etc, etc
If you are interested in trying to revive this group, please contact Group Support for a chat about how to take it further. And you can certainly ask previous leaders for advice, tips and even contacts if you wish.
Thanks
Our heartfelt thanks must go to those who have kept the group going since the Covid pandemic: Bill Hale, Colin Redwood, Eric McEvoy and Bill Soens have done their utmost to continue a wonderful group, supported by a host of others helping with refreshments, chairs, attendance register and collecting attendance fees.
