Visit to Merseyside Mounted Police

By | May 17, 2016

We had a wonderful visit and were very grateful to our guide, Kate (head groom), who is an expert in her field. Kate has been with the force for twelve years and the horses have become her “family”. One can tell at a glance that the horses love Kate as much as she loves them.

Kate introduced all the horses to us describing their breed, where they had come from and their character. She also talked about the qualities needed to be a police horse and showed us the tack that they wear for different situations.

Enjoying superior conditions, quality tack and being cared for by such dedicated caring staff, the horses are in work or training day and night.
Lindsay Gavan, yard manager, certainly does an excellent job managing the staff and keeping the yard second to none; it was a real pleasure to visit!

The day was completed by a delicious tea at Hartley’s Nurseries.
