🎤🎶🎼🎵 A return visit from our wonderful Ukelele group who entertained us with a great range of music. There was plenty to sing along to. ☕🍪
🎄🎅Not quite Christmas but this was our last meeting of the year. We had a quiz and games and then after our festive refreshments the excellent local guitarist, Pete Mercer, returned to entertain us 🎄🤶
Peter Gateley gave us a great presentation on the new RHS Bridgewater garden👩🌾🌼 This was followed by a plant related quiz after the refreshments break.
We had an excellent poetry recital from our very own Poetry Group, followed of course by refreshments and a game

Lacemaking by Jayne Shepherd Jayne introduced us to her journey and sabatical through lace making. Very interesting and thought provoking Followed by refreshments🍰 ☕and a game of bingo 🔢
Film afternoon featuring ‘Finding Your Feet’ – a 2017 British romantic comedy Ice creams 🍦were enjoyed at the interval as well as the usual cuppa☕ and cakes 🍰

26 January 2020 We had a splendid ‘cabaret’ of sketches, songs🤣🎤, and all-round entertainment provided by our Drama group! Refreshments 🍪 midway, of course. 23 February 2020 We held a special ‘Quiz on Ormskirk’ ✍ courtesy of Bill & Sue Watkinson, then a presentation by Peter Gateley on ‘Trips by the U3A Bird 🐦🕊🐤Group’
Our Creative Writing ✍ group make a first appearance for our last session of the year. They are very talented and and were well received. After early festive refreshments the ‘Sunnysiders’🎻🪕🎸🎷🎤🎧🎶 (musical variety show) entertained us further.
’REVAMPED’ returned to entertain us with their songs & guitars 🎸🎸🎼plus we had a display by our Textiles & Quilting group🧵🧶.
22 September 2019 – Our marvellous U3A choir 🎤🎶 performed for us in September followed by refreshments as usual and Prize Bingo🎁
We had a fantastic Sing-a-Long with our famous Guitar 🎸🎸🎼🎶Group then refreshments☕🍰 before we a lively Beetle🐞 Drive.
The Great Mr Bill Evans returned with his Annual Comedy 🤣🎼and Quiz Show and, as always, had us all in stitches
A great range of poems were read by the Poetry 📜Group and The Sunday Social Group. Refreshments 🍪☕ as usual then the Recorder🎼🎶 Group entertained us with some excellent tunes.
Dee Sheard displayed her digital keyboard memorabilia 🎹and entertained us with some🎶🎶 tunes, followed by Peter Gateley talking about 🏛🏫Georgian Buildings in Liverpool’
A Debate was chaired by Mia Faza ‘Habitual offenders should forfeit their benefits and Council Homes’. Refreshments(of course) and a sing-a-long with local guitarist 🎸🎙Ken Waters
‘The Welsh Kingdoms of Old England’ – a very interesting presentation by Edmund Moynihan. After our refreshments Tony Crimlisk & the U3A ‘UKULEERS’🎵🎶 entertained us plus supporting dance troup from our Musical Theatre Group.
A Talk from Pete Trigwell about Punishment 🔐through the ages. Followed by a quiz and tea☕ & cakes🍰 for a treat.
27 Jan 2019 – The Musical Theatre Group🎼🎤🎶🎹 provided us with a fantastic, full and varied afternoon of entertainment. Tea ☕ and Biscuits🍪 in the interval of course.
Our Pre-Christmas Party’.✨🎄 The Cabaret 🎩🎤was provided by our very own Drama Group who encouraged us to join in. We had a fabulous time Yuletide refreshments 🥨🍰were on offer of course.
– Our regular humourist😁 and local botanist🌲🌼 Peter Gateley talked to us about ‘Autumn Colours in our Countryside’. Refreshments and a quiz followed.
Dee and the Digital Keyboard Group 🎹gave us a full afternoon’s entertainment with some information about how the instruments work, lots of wonderful music🎵🎶🎼 and a music quiz. The session was well attended and great fun. We had home baked cakes for a special treat
Denise presented us with some ‘Galton and Simpson Playhouse’ film comedies on this Bank Holiday weekend, a throwback to the 1970s that had everyone laughing 🤣. Pop corn 🍿and Ice cream🍦 were of course served for the authentic Cinema Experience.
An Excellent Presentation on Southport Hesketh Park Observatory was given to us by Edmund Moynihan. Followed of Course by Refreshments then a few rounds of Lucky Dip Bingo
Our very own Bill Evans entertained us with a Picture Quiz and a variety of Comedy clips and videos. Refreshments as always.
A great Guitar Singalong followed by refreshments and a quiz.
22 April: Peter Gateley gave us a very interesting talk about Local Buildings which was followed by a couple of frantic rounds of a Beetle Drive
A Lively Debate was Chaired by Mia Faza – ‘The Police Should Carry Firearms’
The recorder group gave us an wonderful performance and were followed by a great range of poems read by Pauline Jones, Pete Trigwell and Pat Morton who also wrote her contributions.
The Drama group performed Radio Aughton Live to a sell out audience. A fun filled afternoon of news, sketches and stories. A big thank you to everyone.
We each received a beautifully wrapped but blank Tote Bag which members hope to decorate in individual ways
Early Christmas Party Time . The RECORDERS & UKULEERS groups gave us a fantastic performance followed by festive refreshments…
‘A Chinese Tea ceremony’ was presented by members of the Confucious Institute of Edge Hill University, followed by our traditional refreshments Margaret Gibbon then talked to us about ‘Some of her Favourite Ladies from Local History‘.
A great presentation about Martin Mere Wetland Centre by volunteer Eileen Seabright. Tea, Coffee and cakes were followed by some poetry read (and in some cases written) by our very own Sunday Social members
Members of the U3A Guitar group played and sang for us in August. Refreshments were followed by Peter Gateley presenting Butterflies in your Garden. An excellent afternoon was enjoyed by all.
Billy Coleman sang some Sounds of the Sixties for us and introduced us to Just Midnight an Acapella Group who were ‘Just Marvellous’. A great afternoons entertainment.
Bill Evans entertained us with his great selection of funny videos and clips. Followed of course by tea and cakes.
An Afternoon at the Movies – Three short films selected by Denise which between the three of us we managed to present. The popcorn went down well and we have delicious cakes with our tea and coffee.
Our famous raconteur Pearl Webster entertained us and Pauline Jones made us laugh with her regional poems
We were highly entertained by Dee with Keyboard Music and a great story quiz supported by Pat then Peter Gateley gave us a most informative and entertaining talk on Leaves
We enjoyed a series of performances by our Drama Group followed by refreshments and an impromptu quiz. A great start to the New Year
We had a lively Debate on Foreign Aid – introduced by Mia Faza – followed by Festive Refreshments The Sunnysiders then gave us a wonderful variety show.
The Story of Ormskirk Gingerbread was wonderfully presented by Margaret Gibbon Followed by Gingerbread refreshments and then a great Music Quiz from Bill Evans with great animations and a rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone.
Denise Lathom presented us with 3 Somerset Maugham films which we thoroughly enjoyed, even when the ‘reel’ broke down. We had ice creams at the interval served by our very own usherette Pauline Jones
