Online Today – helping people with sight loss

By | March 20, 2016

“Online Today”   was an Awareness Session being hosted by our U3A on Tuesday, 22 March with help from RNIB and Action for Blind People.

Technology can make life easier if you have hearing or sight problems, but knowing where to start isn’t always easy. This session, led by Andrew Coleman, Assistive Technology Support Officer with Action for Blind People, took us gently through the benefits of being online and how it can assist your daily living.

He demonstrated how to use and make the most of products such as tablets, smartphones and e-readers. There was an opportunity to be hands-on and try out the products and ask questions.

Around 24 people attended including people with varying degrees of sight loss, observers and helpers.  Between us, we had quite a wide range of prior relevant technical experience.  But we all learned something new, useful and interesting.

It was truly an excellent session.  Much appreciation is due to Andrew, the Support Office from RNIB, who dealt with the topic with great understanding and expertise. But also many thanks are due to Sue Watkinson for arranging and organising this excellent event.
