Motorcycling

We are a group of motorcycling enthusiasts in our u3a who enjoy riding out. After not being able to ride out in 2020 we intend to start our 2021 season in May.

We are a group of motorcycling enthusiasts who enjoy riding out with other u3a members.  After having to abort our season in 2020 we restarted our rides on 20th May 2021 with a ride to the Trough of Bowland.

We will continue to arrange a formal ride at least once a month from May to September and whenever possible arrange other ad hoc (scratch) rides when the weather looked good. In our first season in 2019 the group had a number of formal rides and scratch rides.

Our 2019 Calendar included:  in April Gerry led six bikes and one pillion on a figure of eight round Mawdesley and Croston then on to Southport Carousel for refreshments. In May Richard led four bikes on a ride to Rivington, Belmont and then on to Vaughn’s Country Cafe at Tockholes, back through Croston, Parbold and Dalton, excellent views and excellent food.

We managed two scratch rides in April. Mike and Jill led five bikes to Glasson Dock for lunch and then to Knott End for ice cream and a look at the Lowry statue, (see photo). Richard led three bikes to Youles Motorcycle Dealers in Blackburn to take Marilyn’s Triumph for a safety recall.  There is always a danger in a biker going into a dealership, all those shiny new bikes. Richard almost bought a new one!

The group is still open to new members. If you have a bike (any size) and are keen to ride to interesting places at sensible speeds (within speed limits) during the week then please get in touch.
