Occasional Tours


 

The group visits areas of Merseyside to discover, through its history and architecture, what it has to offer. All visits MUST BE BOOKED AT HORIZONS (not by phone please) and, if applicable, paid for in advance.

Tuesday 27 April: A walk ~ ‘From Workhouse to Cathedral’. The walk led by Brian King will last approx two hours, (with more talking than walking and including a coffee stop). Highlights include Roscoe’s birth­place, the medical library, Everyman, Blind School etc., not forget­ting the aeroplane factory in a school and the body snatchers. Meet outside the Adelphi at 1030,  finish at the Anglican Cathedral. Numbers limited to 25, charge 50p. Booking starts 1 April.

Tuesday 25 May: Evening coach tour to include items of interest as we travel through North Merseyside, then the two cathedrals, China Town, Sefton Park, Riverside Drive and look at some of the new developments including the Conference Centre, New Museum, Canal and Ferry terminal. The tour will last two hours approximately, and we will finish at the Tai Pan Chinese Restaurant (limited English food available). Depart 1730, Aughton Village Hall. Charge £7.50 to include coach and driver’s tip. (Food and drink not included). Booking starts 29 April.

Tuesday 29 June: Visit to Anglican Cathedral for the centenary of the consecration of the Lady Chapel where there will special evnets and an exhibition as part of the celebrations. The visit includes the introductory film "The building of the Cathedral". There will be an opportunity for a tower visit. Meet at the Cathedral at 2.30 pm. Charge, as donation to Cathedral of £3. Booking starts 3 June.

Tuesday 6 July: Evening coach tour and supper.
For those disappointed in not getting a place on our first coach trip, we are running a second tour.  This will include items of interest as we travel through North Merseyside, then the two Cathedrals, China Town, Sefton Park, Riverside Drive and to look at some of the new developments including the Conference Centre, the New Museum and the Canal and Ferry Terminal.  The tour will last two hours approximately, and we will finish at the China Palace for a ‘self service all you can eat Chinese buffet’.  Depart 1730 Aughton Village Hall.  Charge to include meal and coach driver’s tip £16.  Full waiting list.  For information only.
